Getting ready to travel to Latvia tomorrow to sing with Stéphan Oliva featuring the music of Jimmy Giuffre and Don Cherry in The Listening. We met in 2001, when he subbed for Wolfert Brederode for one of our first concerts in France – a showcase for the April release for Universal France (the ECM distributor) held at the legendary Paris concert hall L’Olympia. We went on to play duo concerts together, whenever we could. As we tour, we need promoters, agents, sound engineers… and this time, the concerts were organized by Charles Gil in collaboration with the French Institute of Latvia and the French Institute in Paris. In this business, it is quite rare to work with professionals no one has a negative word to say about. Charles is one of those persons, and we are happy to collaborate with him. Also with us, one of the two sound engineers I have been working with for many years, Tijmen Zinkhaan from Holland. Doing what we love to do.
